Police in Nakasongola District are investigating a robbery in which unidentified individuals made off with more than Shs192 million from the Finca Bank branch in Nakasongola Town.
The incident was discovered around 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday when the branch manager reported for duty and found the bank premises had been broken into.
According to Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson, Sam Twiineamazima, the robbers stole Shs192,587,800, two laptops, and other yet-to-be-identified items.
“Our officers responded immediately, examined the scene, and recorded relevant statements. So far, four individuals have been arrested to assist with investigations,” Twiineamazima said.
It remains unclear how the robbers gained access to the building, which is guarded 24 hours a day by SGA Security, including night patrols. As of Tuesday evening, Finca Bank Uganda had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
This robbery follows a failed heist in April at Diamond Trust Bank in Wakiso Town, where a security guard was shot dead.
In that case, a group of guards from GKO Security Company, allegedly led by Emmanuel Ekawu, attempted to rob the bank by switching off lights and disabling surveillance cameras.
The suspects reportedly gained entry through a rear maintenance door near the latrines, aiming to reach the vaults unnoticed.
However, the alarm system was triggered, prompting a swift response from police and nearby residents. A shootout ensued, resulting in Ekawu’s death.
