Supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) staged a peaceful procession to the German Embassy in Kololo on Friday, protesting against what they claim are subversive activities by the German Ambassador to Uganda, Matthias Schauer.
Led by PLU Director of Mobilization Michael Mawanda, hundreds of supporters marched from the organization’s offices in Naguru to Philip Drive in Kololo, holding placards and chanting slogans such as “The colonial era ended. The ambassador must go.”
The protesters accused Ambassador Schauer of colluding with individuals and groups they described as enemies of peace, and of allegedly working to undermine Uganda’s sovereignty and credibility.
The demonstration, which was heavily policed with some roads around Kololo temporarily closed, proceeded without incident.
However, protesters found the German Embassy closed and were unable to present their grievances in person.
Outside the embassy gates, the crowd demanded the ambassador’s immediate expulsion and called for his transfer back to Germany.
Addressing the gathering, Mawanda emphasized the importance of respecting diplomatic protocols.

“We’ve been informed that the embassy is closed, and as you know, in international relations, forcing entry into a diplomatic mission would amount to an attack on the country it represents,” Mawanda said.
“We want to demonstrate peacefully as Ugandans, distinguishing ourselves from an ambassador who, we believe, is undermining Uganda’s sovereignty.”
Mawanda also confirmed that the group had left a petition at the embassy, which they expect will be delivered to the appropriate authorities.
Several other demonstrators echoed calls for Ambassador Schauer’s removal, accusing him of harboring intentions to destabilize Uganda’s internal security.

Their concerns follow a statement issued last month by then Acting Director of Defence Public Information, Colonel Chris Magezi, who revealed that Ugandan intelligence services had flagged the ambassador’s actions as undiplomatic and in violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
