Kampala – National Resistance Movement (NRM) District Chairpersons across the country have thrown their weight behind Sadrack Nzaire Nowomugisha, endorsing him as their preferred candidate for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for the Western region.
The endorsement was announced during a closed-door meeting held at Fairway Hotel in Kampala, where party leaders unanimously resolved to rally support for Nzaire ahead of the forthcoming NRM Delegates Conference.
The Vice Chairperson positions are critical in the ruling party’s structure, as they represent the voices of different regions on the Central Executive Committee (CEC), the highest decision-making organ of the NRM.
Nzaire, who is widely recognized for his Pan-African ideals and strong grassroots mobilization, has been credited with spearheading political and community initiatives that have transformed not only his home district of Kiruhura but also the broader Western region.
He faces competition from several seasoned NRM leaders within the region, but observers say the chairpersons’ endorsement gives him a decisive edge.
“We all agreed that he is the right candidate for the job and shall mobilize all our people to vote him in the forthcoming NRM Delegates Conference,” said one of the chairpersons from the Central region, signaling broad-based support beyond Western Uganda.
This is the first time Nzaire is seeking a slot on the CEC. However, he is no stranger to party leadership, having previously served as NRM Chairperson for Kiruhura District, a position he used to build strong political networks and rally support for the ruling party.
In recent weeks, opinion polls among NRM delegates have also placed Nzaire in the lead, reinforcing his momentum as the party prepares for the internal elections.
Analysts note that his endorsement by all district chairpersons marks a rare show of unity in the ruling party, which has in the past been characterized by factional rivalries during CEC races.
If successful, Nzaire will succeed in strengthening his influence within the party and play a key role in shaping NRM’s agenda in the Western region ahead of the 2026 general elections.
