As the country has been waiting for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to appear again on television with hopes of lifting the lockdown as done by presidents in the neibouring countries, their hopes has been turned down after he has maintained the status quo.
The president through his social media platforms has urged the country to maintain its discipline of observing the guidelines against the spread of the disease revealing that the government continue to work on the three areas of vaccine development.
“We are working on the 3 areas of the vaccine-development, diagnostics and anti-viral treatment. That is where the long – term answer is. The present recoveries from COVID-19 are on account of the bodies of the victims defeating the disease assisted by the doctors or just by their own immunity. We want to kill the virus directly.” Museveni has indicated.
He has also conveyed condolence massage to the families of the late James Kirunda the famous Uganda footballer and Major- General Kasirye.
“I, actually, never heard of Kirunda until when he died. Why? It is because for 16 years, 1971-1986, we, the freedom fighters, were cut off from and we were not concentrating on the pleasure and leisure activities that were going on in Uganda.”
About Kasirye-Ggwanga, Museveni has confirmed reading the interviews he gave with a lot of interest.
“I, actually, did not know the adventures he went through as a prisoner of war in Tanzania etc. What I remember, is that he came to see me at Tweyanze in Ngoma sub- county, Nakaseke district. It must have been around August or September, 1983, when we were on the strategic retreat from upper Bulemezi (Semuto- Kapeeka) to lower Bulemezi (Ngoma – Wakyato) following the offensive against us by the UNLA that started early 1983.”
Museveni has promised to deal with the indiscipline of the LDUs in his next communication.
