Police in Busoga North are hunting for unidentified traditional healers suspected of causing the death of their client, Wilberforce Balezewa aged 60 years.
Balezewa, a resident of Namukubembe village, in Bukanga sub-county of Luuka district, is reported to have been invited by traditional healers to cleanse his household of curses and misfortunes on Wednesday night.
Balezewa, however, died in the process of ritual cleansing sessions, prompting his relatives to alert police.
His wife, Eseza Nangobi told journalists that the ritualists inspected the house before locking themselves up with Balezewa in one of the bedrooms, only to pronounce him dead hours later.
“One of the three traditional healers tasked me to check on my husband after about three hours of ritual cleansing, only to find him lying lifeless on the ground,” she sobs.
The deceased’s brother, Patrick Kintu says that he attempted to asked one of the traditional healers why they never came out of the room with his brother after the sessions, only to be bluffed that Balezewa was undergoing recovery after the fatigue resulting from the intense ritual cleansing session.
Meanwhile, the Busoga North police spokesperson, Micheal Kasadha says that the deceased was taken to Kiyunga health center IV mortuary for postmortem.
Kasadha adds that one witch doctor whose identity has been withheld is currently detained at Luuka central police station. Efforts of hunting down the rest of the suspects are underway.
