Godwin Aaron Tasike, a resident of Buwere village in Butiru Town Council, has received UGX 29.184 million in compensation from the Special Forces Command (SFC) after his home was damaged by strong winds caused by the Presidential helicopter in December 2024.
The incident occurred during President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s zonal tour to assess the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Manafwa District.
As the helicopter landed and later took off from Butiru Demonstration Primary School, strong rotor winds caused significant structural damage to Tasike’s house, located nearby. Roof tiles were blown off, windows cracked, and walls were weakened.
For months, Tasike, a local government machine operator and passionate farmer, awaited support to rebuild his home.
That support finally arrived in early June during a handover ceremony held in Buwere village.
Representing Brig. Gen. Paul Namawa, Major Newton Isaac Namazima presented the compensation package to Tasike, commending his patience and affirming the UPDF’s commitment to serving the people.
“This is a strong testament to our bond with the civilian community,” said Maj. Namazima. “The UPDF and SFC stand with Ugandans in both duty and compassion.”
An emotional Tasike expressed gratitude during the event: “I am very happy that my call has been answered. I didn’t know how my house would be repaired. God is great.”
Local leaders, including Manafwa Resident District Commissioner Patience Webule and LCI Chairperson Magumba Kefas, lauded the peaceful resolution.
Maj. Jimmy Omara and Gwasaze Martin Andrew were also present to witness the ceremony.
The funds will be used to refurbish Tasike’s damaged home and provide temporary shelter for his family during the reconstruction.
The compensation marks a rare but encouraging example of civilian-military cooperation, reinforcing trust in government responsiveness at the grassroots level.
