Supreme Court Unfold Judgment on Military Court Trying Civilians

The Supreme Court has started reading the judgement that would deter or extend the trial of civilians in the military tribunal.

At Exactly 10:26 am, the panel of seven Justices led by Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo entered the court and began the proceedings.

Owiny-Dollo joked that he thought that the Lord Mayor was representing Kabaziguruka, and wondered why he was not at the bar. However, the lead Counsel Medard Lubega Ssegona said it was Lukwago and Company Advocates that were given instructions.

Owiny-Dollo said the other members of the panel will read their judgements and afterwards, they will also read the lead judgement of 200 pages.

Lady Justice Monica Mugenyi is currently reading her judgement.

Justice Faith Mwondha who is one of the Justices who handled this matter is expected to have written a ruling.

The other six Justices are present namely; Elizabeth Musoke, Mike Chibita, Catherine Bamugemereire and Percy Night Tuhaise.

Should the court rule otherwise, it means that Kabaziguruka and other civilians will be set free.

Meanwhile, roads surrounding the Supreme Court such as Buganda Road, Nakasero Road, Nile Avenue, George Street and Lumumba Avenue are having normal traffic.

At the entrances, people accessing the court were asked to present their National IDs while journalists who were not accredited were turned away.

Two police patrols were parked at the main entrance while construction works at the Court were ongoing interrupted.

The Attorney General is being led by the Team of Lawyers led by Charles Ouma the Deputy Solicitor General, Martin Mwambutsya Director of Civil Litigation, George Kallemera the Commissioner of Civil Litigation, Richard Adrole Assistant Commissioner of Civil Litigation, Allan Mukama State Attorney and Franklin Uwizera State Attorney has represented the Attorney General.

They are joined by Col Raphael Mugisha the Director of Prosecutions and Major Edgar Musasizi the Civil Affairs and Lt Achilles who are all from the UPDF.

Other than the legal officers, the Leader of Opposition (LOP) in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya, Kawempe North aspirant Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi and PFF politicians led by Harold Kaija were all present.
