Sylvia Uwimana, 30, a resident of Kyakato Cell in Kakindo Town Council, is in custody at the Kakumiro Central Police Station for allegedly strangling her stepdaughter to death.

The deceased, Rosemary Mbabazi, 10, was a resident of the same area. The incident occurred on Sunday evening.

It is reported that Uwimana went to fetch water with Mbabazi at Kabayigalira Swamp, a few kilometers from their home.

On their way back, Uwimana allegedly attacked and strangled the girl, later dumping her lifeless body in the nearby swamp.

The body was discovered by children playing near the swamp, who then reported the incident to area residents.

Residents rushed to the scene and found the child with bruises around her neck, indicating she had been strangled.

Johnson Musinguzi, the deceased’s father, expressed shock upon learning that his wife had murdered his daughter.

He stated that prior to the incident, his wife and stepdaughter had been living peacefully, and he was bewildered by her brutal decision.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, reveals that during police interrogation, Uwimana admitted to strangling her stepdaughter.

Once the police investigations are complete, Uwimana will be arraigned in court and charged with murder.

The police transported the deceased’s body to Kakumiro Health Center IV for a postmortem before handing it over to the relatives for burial arrangements.

In a related incident, police in Hoima City are hunting for Vivian Nyakato, a resident of Kijogo Cell in Kibingo Cell of Hoima West Division, for allegedly murdering a 16-year-old boy.

The deceased, Nelly Musinguzi, was a student at Geneva Secondary School in Hoima City.

According to information gathered, on May 25, 2024, Nyakato quarreled with Musinguzi over a jerrycan at a construction site and reportedly hit him on the head with a brick.

Despite being referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for specialized medical attention, Musinguzi died on June 8, 2024, from his injuries.

Julius Hakiza stated that Nyakato fled to an unknown destination after the incident, and the police are actively hunting for her to ensure she is arrested and prosecuted for justice to prevail.
