The Office of the National Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement has fired their Greater Mbarara district (Ankole region) Coordinator Zephline Muhangi over extortion, corruption and sabotage.
The NRM Chairman is President of Uganda General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
According to the Personal Assistant to NRM Chairman Uzeiye Hadija Namyalo, the termination of Muhangi takes immediate effect.
Details of Muhangi ‘s termination from his job where he has been for about two years are contained in a May 28th 2024 letter in which Namyalo who is his immediate supervisor states that the decision was made due to the repeated instances of indiscipline and sabotage of office programs that have been noted time and again.
“Your actions have had a detrimental effect on the operations of the Office of the National Chairman , and despite previous warnings and attempts to address these issues , there has not been any improvement in your conduct . Your actions have consistently fallen short of the expected standards”, reads the letter in part”.
The letter adds that “Your disregard to policies of office of the NRM National Chairman , lack of cooperation with your colleagues Bazzukulu Coordinators and willful sabotage of office programs have demonstrated a serious breach of trust and professionalism that cannot be tolerated further.
According to Namyalo, Muhangi as a Regional Coordinator, was entrusted with responsibilities that required a high level of intergrity and discipline which he did not exhibit in the course of his duties.
Sources in the Office of the National Chairman -ONC who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of repercussions have also told Our Reporter that Muhangi was also fired because of sexual misconduct towards fellow female staff.
In what appears like damage control, Muhangi immediately after receiving a letter terminating his unprofessional services quickly wrote a letter indicating that he had resigned from the same job .
However, Muhangi ‘s resignation letter dated June 1st 2024 comes like an afterthought since he wrote it to Namyalo four days after he had been fired.
In his purported resignation letter which doesn’t state any reason for resigning , Muhangi said he was to start the clearance process soon.
“I am happy to kickstart the clearance process any time from now, at your inconvenience (s) and please do not hesitate to let me know should there be anyway I can support the transition”, wrote Muhangi.
The office of the National Chairman for NRM -ONC was established in accordance with Chapter 4, Clause 14, Subsection 1 of the NRM party Constitution
The primary purpose of the ONC is to provide substantial support to the National Chairman in effectively implementing the party’s principles, policies, and other endeavour that contribute to the betterment of the NRM government.
