Masaka RCC Washaki Claims He Rejected Namayanja’s Advances Amid Growing Rivalry

Masaka City RCC Ahamada Washaki and Masaka City Mayor Florence Namayanja

The simmering political rivalry in Masaka has taken an unexpected turn after the city’s Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Ahamada Washaki, alleged that he once rejected romantic advances from Masaka City Mayor Florence Namayanja, claims that have injected fresh drama into an already tense relationship between the two leaders.

In a recorded video, Washaki accused opposition politicians in Masaka of persistently undermining his work and dismissing government achievements in the area. But it was his remarks about Namayanja that have generated the most attention.

According to Washaki, the mayor allegedly attempted to cultivate a personal relationship with him, believing he would succumb to her advances because of her age and status. He claimed he resisted what he described as a “romantic trap,” insisting that he remained focused on his official duties.

The RCC further alleged that Namayanja expected him to seek favours from her office, including fuel assistance, but maintained that the Office of the President is adequately facilitated to carry out its mandate.

Washaki also revisited previous disagreements with the mayor, claiming authorities had exercised restraint toward her despite an incident in which she was accused of assaulting a police officer during events linked to the Ssaza celebrations. He suggested that tougher action could have been taken.

The allegations come against the backdrop of longstanding friction between the RCC and opposition leaders in Masaka, where disputes over governance, service delivery and political influence have frequently spilled into the public domain.

Namayanja, a prominent opposition figure and former legislator, had not publicly responded to Washaki’s remarks by press time. Without her account, the RCC’s claims remain unverified.

Political observers say the allegations risk shifting public debate away from policy issues and toward personal accusations, further deepening divisions in a city already marked by sharp political competition.

Whether Washaki’s comments were intended as a political counterattack or a personal revelation, they have added another layer of intrigue to the increasingly contentious relationship between two of Masaka’s most visible leaders.
