Two police officers from the Mineral Police Unit in Namayingo District are recovering from serious injuries after being attacked by a group of unidentified assailants armed with machetes.
The officers—Moses Batuli and Isa Isabirye—had been deployed to guard Harmony Resources, a gold processing facility located in Budde Village, Buyinja Sub- County.
At the time of the attack, the duo was stationed at the main entrance of the mining site as standby security.
According to reports, the officers were ambushed by an estimated two dozen armed men, who overpowered and disarmed them before forcefully gaining entry into restricted areas of the facility.
Both officers suffered severe head injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Victoria Hospital in Namayingo.
Julius Katusiime, Chief Operations Officer at Harmony Resources, confirmed that the attackers breached the company’s storage area and accessed high-value raw materials.
Katusiime reported that carbon components used in gold extraction—worth approximately Shs 200 million—were stolen during the raid.
Michael Kafayo, the Busoga East police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and noted that the injured officers are slowly showing signs of recovery.
He added that investigators have already visited the crime scene and launched a full inquiry.
Kafayo urged the public to share any information that could assist law enforcement in identifying and apprehending the suspects involved in the violent robbery.
