National Unity Platform (NUP) has officially confirmed Amaniyo Draville Sheila as its flag bearer for the Mukono District Woman Member of Parliament seat, dropping Hanipher Nabukeera from its final list of candidates for the Buganda region.
The development was announced on Monday through a list posted on the party’s official social media platforms, following the conclusion of petition hearings and the re-evaluation of candidates in selected constituencies.
According to the statement, “The successful candidates may now proceed to bring their nomination forms to the Party Headquarters (Makerere-Kavule) for endorsement.”
The party further guided that, except for constituencies where no successful candidate was announced, all candidates are expected to present their forms on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th October 2025, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
This decision marks a significant shift in the party’s lineup ahead of the forthcoming electoral nominations, signaling intensified internal competition as NUP positions its strongest contenders for the 2026 general elections.
Nabukeera, who has been the incumbent flag bearer, is yet to publicly comment on the decision. Meanwhile, Draville’s supporters have welcomed the development with excitement, describing it as “a new chapter” in their political journey.
Party officials emphasized that the vetting exercise was aimed at ensuring transparency, strengthening party structures, and consolidating support in Buganda and other regions ahead of the polls.
