President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has taken his presidential campaign to Kikuube District in the Bunyoro Sub-region, where he addressed residents as he seeks re-election in the 2026 general elections.
The President was accompanied by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, the NRM Western Region Chairperson Asiimwe Akiiki, and several Members of Parliament, attracting large crowds from across the district.
During the rally, Speaker Among presented key concerns affecting the community, calling on government to prioritize the establishment of irrigation schemes and the resettlement of families displaced by floods in parts of Kikuube District. She noted that recurrent flooding continues to affect livelihoods, particularly among farming communities.

In his response, President Museveni assured residents of government’s commitment to improving service delivery in the area. He announced plans to upgrade Kikuube Health Centre IV into a district hospital, a move aimed at easing access to quality healthcare services for the population.
Museveni further highlighted improvements in infrastructure, noting that almost all sub-counties in Kikuube now have access to electricity and that all 19 sub-counties are served by either a Health Centre III or IV.
Addressing livelihoods around Lake Albert, the President cautioned fishermen against poor fishing practices, warning that harvesting immature fish and destroying breeding grounds threatens the sustainability of the fishing industry.
“I guided our people on proper fish farming. Stop catching young fish, protect breeding areas, and regulate numbers on the lake. Even Namboole Stadium has a capacity. Without discipline, the fish will disappear,” Museveni said.

He commended elders and cultural institutions, including clans such as the Abakonga in Buliisa, for promoting responsible fishing by returning young fish to the lake.
The Kikuube stop is part of President Museveni’s broader campaign outreach, where he continues to outline his development agenda focused on healthcare improvement, infrastructure expansion, agricultural productivity, and sustainable management of natural resources ahead of the 2026 elections.
