Masaka City Woman Member of Parliament Justine Nameere Nsubuga has credited President Yoweri Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for their support during what she described as political battles involving factions within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and individuals linked to the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).
In a statement celebrating what she considers a personal and political victory, Nameere said she had endured sustained opposition from political rivals since the NRM party primaries, accusing some individuals of working together to undermine her political ambitions.
Nameere, who also serves as Minister of State for Local Government, attributed her resilience throughout the period to her Christian faith, saying she remained peaceful despite what she described as efforts by her enemies to frustrate her.
“The Almighty Living God has defeated every jealous enemy, those I know and those I do not know,” she declared.
She alleged that individuals within the NRM had teamed up with people associated with NUP to frustrate her political ambitions and interfere with her victory in the general election. However, she did not provide specific evidence to substantiate the allegations in her statement.
Nameere said she was grateful to Museveni for what she described as his consideration after he learnt the details of her political experiences.
She also praised Gen Kainerugaba, saying he sympathised with her after learning about alleged political dealings in Masaka City involving individuals she accused of working together to frustrate leaders pursuing transformative agendas.
According to Nameere, Kainerugaba directed an investigation into what she termed “mafia politics” in Masaka City, including its origins and the intentions of those allegedly involved.
The nature and scope of the reported investigation were not detailed in her statement.
Nameere’s remarks come amid continuing political competition within the NRM, where internal disagreements over party primaries and candidate selection have occasionally triggered disputes among members.
She maintained that her faith had enabled her to withstand the pressure, insisting that she had surrendered her political journey to God.
“God can never be defeated. If God is on your side, nobody, and I repeat, nobody can defeat you,” she said.
She also urged young people aspiring to enter politics to remain guided by their faith, arguing that integrity and divine guidance were more important than political manoeuvres and public criticism.
Nameere concluded her statement by quoting Isaiah 54:17, a biblical passage associated with protection against opposition, declaring that no weapon formed against her would prosper.
The legislator did not identify all the individuals she accused of working against her, and the allegations had not been independently verified.
