Margaret Nattabi, former Vice Guild President of Makerere University, has been officially nominated as the Female Youth Councillor for Mukono Municipality, marking another step in her steady rise as a young leader committed to advancing youth empowerment.

Known for her fearless student leadership and active participation in protests against injustices, Nattabi says she is now channeling her energy into structured leadership that directly transforms the lives of young people.

Speaking after her nomination, she emphasized that the electoral college system gives her an advantage since she already knows the voters and intends to engage them one-on-one.

“It’s just a matter of looking out for them and starting the campaign. We have to make sure we do whatever it takes to win this election and be declared winners,” she said.

Her immediate plan, she noted, is to organize the youth into functional groups that can benefit from both government and non-government initiatives.

Citing programs such as Emyooga and the Youth Livelihood Fund, she revealed that funds have already been allocated to circles in Mukono Municipality.

“I urge every youth out there to come so that we form groups and associations that can make proper use of this money,” she added.

Beyond economic empowerment, Nattabi says she is determined to give young people a stronger voice in governance.

As a councillor, she intends to ensure that issues affecting the youth are meaningfully debated in council and remain central to development planning.

Her vision, she explained, is to create platforms for dialogue, accountability, and opportunity that will not only address immediate needs but also prepare the next generation of leaders.

Observers note that her nomination represents a blend of activism and leadership—qualities that increasingly define the new wave of youth politicians in Uganda.

With her background in advocacy and a hands-on approach to mobilization, Nattabi is positioning herself as a unifying figure capable of turning youthful energy into meaningful community transformation.
