In a decisive move to consolidate support for President Museveni’s reelection, PLU National Chairman Michael Nuwagira “Toyota” Kaguta has unveiled a new leadership team for the United States chapter.
The appointments are widely viewed as a strategic effort to counter opposition forces and ensure the diaspora remains firmly aligned with the NRM agenda.
Toyota Kaguta, hailed as the architect of this mobilisation strategy, described the appointments as vital to transforming PLU operations in the US.
In his November 10, 2025 memo, he emphasized the new team’s role in strengthening unity and advancing the movement’s objectives.
The new leadership features Ronnie Kananura as Chapter Chairperson, Gad Eteu as Deputy Chairperson, and Benita Lutaaya alongside Betty Kizito as Executive Secretary and Assistant Executive Secretary, respectively.
Mobilisation will be driven by Francis Nkuusa, Ronald Rutehenda, and Susan Gakwavu, while Griffin Ruhakari will head programs.
Kananura welcomed his appointment with a strong message of reconciliation and empowerment. His acceptance speech reflected the spirit of the new leadership:
“Fellow members of the diaspora, I am deeply honored and humbled to accept the role of Chairman PLU-USA Chapter. Our voices matter. Our stories matter. And our presence must reflect the strength and dignity of our roots.
Leadership is not a solo act—it is a symphony of voices. I invite each of you to be part of this movement not as supporters but as stakeholders, strategists, and storytellers.
Together we will leave a legacy we can be proud of. Let this be a new beginning defined by action, impact, and unity for the PLU-USA Chapter.”
His remarks underscored the importance of inclusivity, urging members to avoid divisions and embrace collective responsibility.
He praised the new team as “men and women of substance” and commended Toyota Kaguta for being “spot on” in his selections.
Betty Kizito expressed gratitude for her appointment, saluting the outgoing team and pledging to continue adding value to Ugandans in the diaspora.
Francis Nkuusa affirmed that mobilisation efforts will not stop in the US but will also extend to Uganda, directly supporting President Museveni’s campaign.
With Toyota Kaguta’s strategic planning and Kananura’s unifying vision, the appointments are expected to energize PLU’s diaspora chapter, weaken opposition influence, and deliver a powerful boost to the NRM’s reelection drive.
