The Democratic Front (DF) has stepped up efforts to empower local communities in Mukono through a direct financial boost to the Mukono Muslim Women Saving and Cooperative SACCO.
The contribution, worth five million shillings, was delivered by Allan Mawanda, the party’s Secretary for Post-Conflict and Reconstruction, during his visit to Masjid Atiq Mosque in Mukono town.
The pledge was initially made by Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, the President of the Democratic Front and Commissioner of Parliament.
Mawanda emphasized that the support reflects DF’s commitment to practical, community-based development, especially at a time when youth unemployment and social frustration are becoming urgent national concerns.
“If a leader truly commits to serving their people, they can tap into local networks and corporate partnerships to fight idleness and unemployment,” Mawanda said.
Mawanda, who is contesting for the Mukono Municipality parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections, used the visit to call upon leaders at all levels, particularly Members of Parliament, to prioritize the search for opportunities for their constituents.
He stressed that development should not be hindered by political affiliations.

“Even if it means engaging with a government you politically oppose, leaders must find ways to ensure services and opportunities reach the people,” he added.
The Mukono Muslim Women Saving and Cooperative SACCO is focused on improving the economic status of Muslim women in the region through small-scale entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
The chairperson of the SACCO, Hajjat Sheru Umaru, welcomed the Democratic Front’s support and explained the group’s goals.
“We want to lift Muslim women out of poverty by teaching them how to save and run small businesses. However, we are still facing major challenges including early marriages, low levels of education, and religious differences,” Hajjat Sheru said.
She also highlighted the social benefits of women’s empowerment.
“An empowered woman can support her husband and help create a stable family. This reduces cases of gender-based violence.”
The District Khadi of Mukono, Sheikh Abas Ssenkuba, encouraged Muslims in the district to embrace development through cooperative and savings groups guided by Islamic values.
He said these initiatives can serve as a pathway out of poverty, especially within households.
“I encourage women to register with the SACCO. Opportunities often come to groups rather than individuals,” Sheikh Ssenkuba said.

A Political Approach Rooted in Community Support
The Democratic Front’s outreach in Mukono is part of a broader political strategy focused on delivering real impact to ordinary citizens.
As the 2026 elections approach, the party appears to be placing emphasis on grassroots empowerment, particularly targeting women and youth.
The event at Masjid Atiq Mosque signaled a message of unity and service.
Rather than focusing on political divisions, the Democratic Front is presenting itself as a platform for action and progress through partnerships with communities.
