Mukono, Uganda. Mike Ssegawa, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Mukono, has appealed to the residents and local leaders to avoid politics that disrupt the development of the district.
Ssegawa’s call came Friday during the launch of the Mukono District Development Forum at Mukono High School, aimed to set the stage for the implementation of the long-awaited Kampala Metropolitan Development Project.
The commissioner stressed the overdue nature of the project in the district, urging caution in its handling to prevent any setbacks.
He further stated the district’s missed opportunities for development, attributing them to politicians who, under the guise of championing the people’s cause, have instead hindered progress for personal gain.
Among the missed opportunities cited were the lack of quality markets, poor roads, and inadequate street lighting.

To tackle these challenges head-on, a committee comprising thirty members has been meticulously selected to represent various segments of the community, including youth, industrialists, journalists, women, bankers, and other categories.
The Forum’s spokesperson, Herbart Sseryazi, highlighted the need to address political conflicts that have historically hampered development projects in the district.
The primary goal of the forum is to bridge the existing gap between the community, leaders, and the technical arm of the district. Sseryazi stressed the importance of educating the people about the development initiatives coming to their areas, aiming to dispel ignorance and foster a sense of ownership among the residents.

“We hope to conduct a public dialogue with dwellers where the development is going to be held, aimed at receiving the views from the people and taking them to the technical arm of the district,” stated Sseryazi.
Robert Yiga, the elected chairman of the development forum, echoed the sentiments, stressing the need for a stronger relationship between politicians and the people of Mukono to ensure the delivery of better services.
Yiga urged politicians to set aside differences and collaborate for the greater good of the community.

In the closing moments of the training session, Ssegawa appealed to the Mukono district speaker and councillors to endorse the forum for the betterment of Mukono.
He stated the importance of political support in ensuring the success of the development initiatives outlined by the Forum.
So far Ugx4 billion was allocated for the construction of the Ntenjeru – Mpata – Bule Road in Mukono South, scheduled for later in the year. This financial commitment underscores the significance of the Mukono District Development Forum in steering the district towards a brighter and more prosperous future.
The success of this initiative relies heavily on political backing, unity, and a collective commitment to prioritise the well-being of the Mukono community over individual interests.
