The State Minister for Micro Finance Harunah Kyeyune Kasolo stunned Ugandans by declaring that the country shall not hold general presidential elections come 2026.
The minister frankly made the statement at various upcountry districts while monitoring progress of the presidential poverty alleviation program of ‘Emyoga’.
In his statement, Kasolo told residents to back off all political ambitions aimed at changing government since no one is certain about what will happen in 2026.

Although, he made the statement amidst presence of opposition leaders including MPs from the Democratic Party and the National Unity Platform, none of them made a counter response.
Kasolo’s audacious campaign confirms the allegations that Uganda government is proposing a change in the Constitution to abolish the popular presidential elections by the public for the president to be elected by Members of Parliament-MP.
There are allegations that the government is already mobilizing money to fund the Constitution Review Commission members traverse the entire country in pursuit of the thoughts of Ugandans on the looming amendment.

In Uganda, the President is elected by people through elections after every five years, with the winner receiving over 50 percent of the votes.
Since 1996 when the first presidential elections were held, the ruling party NRM has had the majority of the legislators in Parliament.
