The Commissioner for Health Training at the Ministry of Education and Sports, Dr. Safinah Musene applauded the management of St. Eliza School of Nursing and Midwifery for maintaining health training standards.
The commissioner noted presiding over the institution’s fifth graduation ceremony conducted at the school gardens. A total of 273 students graduated in both nursing and midwifery courses.
Dr. Musene says St. Eliza laid a strong ground for producing competent nurses desired on market since they make health services attractive and take their services as a calling to save lives.
“They work together with the ministry of education so that they remain with the capacity for training. They have enough tutors, clinical instructors, facilities for accommodation, recreation and access to training health facilities.” Dr. Musene noted.
The Institution Principal, Margret Nalubwama says the graduates are well prepared for the new challenges ahead.
“I encourage you to embrace challenges as progress, continue to seize opportunities to learn, grow, innovate, adapt and be resilient. Whatever you choose to do next, remember that learning is a life long journey.” Nalubwama notes.
Njeru Municipality Member of Parliament, Jimmy Lwanga also a board member at St. Eliza appealed to the commissioner to consider revising years of students intending to enroll in health training institutions.
He noted that attempts to register children for health training are always turned down on the grounds of age despite the excellent performance at their ordinary levels of education.
The ministry of education policy emphasizes that beyond academic performance, under the laws of Uganda, a health officer or trainee must be an adult of above the age of eighteen.
Dr. Musene, emphasized that the standard age describing an adult in Uganda is eighteen, unless it is revised, the ministry will continue considering enrollment of students below the age of eighteen as illegal.
St. Eliza School of Nursing and Midwifery currently has a total population of 225 students on both certificates and diplomas.
The institution was established in May 2009, by Elizabeth Lutwama on a provisional license and later fully registered in October 2014.
