St Cyprian High School-Kyabakadde Head Teacher Reveals Tactics Behind UCE Excellence
St. Cyprian High School, Kyabakadde located in Mukono emerged among the best schools in the recently released Uganda Certificate of Education-UCE results by the Uganda National Examination Board-UNEB.
The school secured 121 first grades. In revealing the tactics behind such achievement, the head teacher Joseph Kamya said by the time schools went into lockdown, teachers embarked on reaching out to students using WhatsApp and later developed Zoom classes.
“By the time we come to senior four, syllabus is ensured. So our children were kept active, we had notice in soft copy format and while at home they were revising. They kept on the discussions.” Kamya says.
He further says that when the government lifted the lockdown, the school ensured counselling sessions of all learners which boosted further their study morale. “They had several talks from teachers, medical personal and other counsellors,”
Kamya is much appreciative to parents who accepted to avail their telephones to children for lesson access.
“We are very grateful to our parents, majority of our learners did not have telephones, other computers but parents were very cooperative and they sacrificed their telephones and time to keep at home. The study program was always in the morning up to mid-day,” He notes.
Kamya advises school administrators in the country to develop soft study materials, buy extra gadgets as well as parents to help the students since it is the only trend now to take.
Meanwhile, various students at St. Cyprian are celebrating their victory through posting their results and photos on various social media platforms on top of praising teacher and parents’ support.
