Mukono-Uganda
Godfrey Babi Kimera, a prominent elder of Mukono Central SDA Church in Mukono district, has sparked outrage among his community after he was introduced by his second lover.
The move has caused a significant uproar, especially among church members, who argue that it is unnecessary and goes against Jesus’ divine command of ‘what God has joined together, let not man separate’.
The incident has brought to light the sensitive issue of infidelity and marital fidelity in Uganda, as well as the role of religious leaders in setting moral standards for their followers.
For believers, the institution of marriage was divinely established in the Garden of Eden and later affirmed by Jesus as a lifetime union between a man and a woman in loving companionship, regardless of any challenges encountered.
Despite failing to legally divorce his first wife, Kimera held a vibrant customary introduction ceremony in Mukono with his new partner, accompanied by various church elders.
The couple did not specify the duration of their relationship during the ceremony, but sources claim that Kimera has been seeing his new partner since 2018, before parting ways with his long-time lover and mother of his four children.
The controversial introduction ceremony has led to questions about the moral standards and values of religious leaders, especially in cases of infidelity and marital fidelity.
This website has learned that Kimera is actively working to divorce his legal wife in order to formalise his relationship with his new partner.
This comes after a tumultuous and violent marriage, which almost ended three years ago due to daily physical abuse and torture inflicted upon his wife. It is also alleged that Kimera attempted to sacrifice his wife in an effort to grow and stabilise his businesses.
These revelations add further controversy to his recent introduction ceremony with his new partner, sparking debate about the ethical standards of religious leaders and their actions.
Kimera convinced his wife to accompany him on a lover’s outing to a resort centre in Mbalala, Mukono District.
Once they arrived, he left his wife in the car and went to secure a room, claiming that they would be spending the entire night there. However, he left the car doors locked, trapping his wife inside.
As the woman was trying to figure out how to open the locked car doors, she noticed a sharp knife and a black cadaver pouch, typically used for human body storage, in the back seat. When Kimera returned, he was accompanied by two men who were following him from a distance.
He unlocked the car, but the woman had become suspicious and managed to escape before he could carry out his plan. Kimera then ordered his two colleagues to seize her, but she managed to get away.
It’s important to note that discouraging victims from reporting crimes to the police is not acceptable, regardless of the perpetrator’s status in the community.
Victims have a right to seek justice through legal means, and it is the responsibility of the authorities to ensure their safety and protection.
Kimera’s actions have caused outrage among the Seventh Day Adventist church members who see his behaviour as going against the church’s teachings on marriage and commitment.
Despite attempts to counsel him and persuade him to reconcile with his legal wife, Kimera appears determined to divorce her and formalise his relationship with his second lover.
The incident involving the attempted sacrifice of his wife further compounds his plight, with some members of the church expressing concerns about his fitness to continue serving as an elder.
However, many members of the Seventh Day Adventist church are still in disbelief over Kimera’s actions and have criticised him for going against the church’s teachings on marriage and fidelity.
The church leadership has yet to make an official statement on the matter, but some members are calling for disciplinary action against Kimera for his behaviour. Meanwhile, he remained adamant that he has done nothing wrong and is determined to move forward with his new relationship, despite the controversy it has caused.
What Followers Say?
The incident has undoubtedly stirred up controversy within the church community, with some members calling for Kimera to step down from his position as an elder. Others argue that his actions have brought shame to the church and are against the fundamental teachings of Christianity.
Regardless of the differing opinions, it is clear that the issue is far from resolved, and it remains to be seen what actions, if any, will be taken by the church leadership to address the matter.
It is clear from the Church Manual that marrying someone while still legally married to another is a violation of the marriage vow and is not acceptable within the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
This is a view shared by many church members who believe that marriage is a sacred union that should be respected and upheld regardless of the circumstances.
In light of these teachings, some church members are calling for action to be taken against Kimera for his actions. However, the church leaders remain silent, leaving many to wonder if they will ever take a stand on the matter.
It remains to be seen how this situation will play out and whether or not the church will uphold its teachings on marriage and hold its members accountable for their actions.
