Kampala, Uganda. President Yoweri Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), has rewarded 395 soldiers with well-deserved promotions in acknowledgement of their dedicated service.
Among those honoured, the highest-ranking officer elevated is Charles Oluka, the Director General of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), a key government intelligence agency. Oluka has transitioned from the rank of Colonel to Brigadier, attaining the esteemed position of a one-star General.
The promotion of Charles Oluka signifies a notable recognition of his contributions in overseeing the operations of ISO, highlighting the critical role played by the agency in national security.
Emmy Katabazi, the deputy to Charles Oluka at ISO, also receives a commendable promotion, ascending from the rank of Lieutenant Colonel to full Colonel. This elevation underscores the commitment and competence demonstrated by Katabazi in supporting the leadership of ISO.
Additionally, 22 officers have been raised to the rank of Colonel, a significant milestone in their military careers. Notable among them are Moses Ikuret Emeru, David MuNyua, Geroge Buga Andruga, Charles Asiimwe Kibate, Joseph Aliganyira, and Patrick Ajiku. These officers have exhibited exemplary service and dedication, earning them the distinction of Colonel within the UPDF.
The promotion and confirmation of acting ranks extend beyond Colonels, with numerous Majors advancing to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Furthermore, Captains within the UPDF have been elevated to the status of Major, while Lieutenants have been promoted to the position of Captain.
The President’s decision to promote and confirm the ranks of these senior and junior officers reflects a commitment to recognising and rewarding excellence within the UPDF.
The military plays a crucial role in ensuring the security and stability of the nation, and President Museveni’s actions emphasise the importance of acknowledging the contributions of individuals who go above and beyond in their service.
As these officers assume higher ranks, they are entrusted with increased responsibilities, reflecting the President’s confidence in their abilities to lead and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the UPDF.
