Enumerators enrolled by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics-UBOS to conduct census in the country are still stack with malfunctioning tablets at various sub counties within Mukono district.
About 40, 000 rugged tablets were purchased at an estimated cost of shillings 83 billion from Laxtop Group.
However, the Computer-Assisted Personal Interview-CAPI application used as a face to face data collection method to record answers given during the interview has failed to respond.
The system was installed with geospatial technologies to assist in locating households, however, enumerators have failed to trace a single household within their localities.
For instance, some places in Mukono district, the system is reading Kiboga district.
For the case of Mukono municipality, supervisors have advised enumerators to keep on waiting for the server to respond or try log in the following day.
In other alternatives, they have as well been advised to work on institutional questionnaire and the household exercise will proceed the following day.
The situation has left many residents wondering why the government had to declare a public holiday before testing the gadgets for the exercise.
UBOS Executive Director, Dr Chris Mukiiza during his national wide campaign tours conducted with an intention to promote the exercise, he told stakeholders at Mukono district was tested and trusted for the exercise.
Our efforts to find out from UBOS what has caused the malfunction of tablets is still unsuccessful.
