Mukono District Khadhi Arrested for Office Misuse

Mukono District Khadhi Sheik Sazir Lumala

Police has today Wednesday arrested the Mukono District Khadi Sheikh Sazir Lumala on charges of Breaking forcefully into the imam’s offices located at Mukono Masjid Taqua in Mukono Central Division, Mukono municipality.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Shiek Lumala was promoted from being imam of the mosque in Mukono to being the district Khadhi but also declined to handover the former office.

Onyango says according to the muslim’s arrangements at Mukono, the Khadhi of the district is entitled to seat at the district headquarters located at Kiyunga after Mpooma.

He also says the khadhi has also stayed in Mukono house, office including controlling the bank account which has prompted the muslim’s community to report him to police.

“He was enjoying the prevelligaes of imam and the same time district Khadhi denying the imam his share.” Onyango shares.

However, the Khadhi says Imam Abdu Magidu Ssenyonjo was wrongly instituted into the office which is against legal procedures and had locked the office for so long which prompted him to open it.

“A group of Moslems formed an association called “Mukono Moslem Mission” and selected their leader Sheikh Abdu Magid Ssenyonjo as Imam under the wrong criteria. They forwarded the name to the Kampala Moslem Supreme Council where they were bounced back to follow the right procedures.” Sheik Lumala says.

The imam [Ssenyonjo] insists he was lawfully put in the office accusing the khadhi for staying to enjoy a lot benefits alone.  The mosque board chairperson Mohammad Ffefeka Sserubogo has blamed all the confusion on Uganda Moslem Supreme Council which has declined guide the khadhi despite of writing to them several times.
