Wakiso-Uganda
A 26-year-old man in Wakiso district is currently nursing injuries after attempting to set himself on fire due to alleged rejection by a married woman.
It is claimed that Faizo Kasirye, a bricklayer residing in Kazinga, Nsumbi Zone, Kyebando Parish, Nansana municipality in Wakiso district, tried to commit suicide by dousing himself with kerosene and igniting it.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Kasirye was rescued and is now receiving medical treatment at Kiruddu Hospital.
Owoyesigyire revealed that during the investigation, the man admitted to relentlessly pursuing a married woman named Nali, and she had repeatedly turned down his advances.
The trigger for his desperate act was seeing Nali with her husband at a bar the day before.
Owoyesigyire added that they located Nali, who gave her statement, confirming Kasirye’s advances and her rejection of his proposals due to her marital status.
The police spokesperson emphasized that boys should never resort to suicide if a woman rejects them and urged them to accept the outcome gracefully.
Owoyesigyire highlighted that Kasirye will face charges of attempted suicide, as it is considered a crime according to the laws of the land.
