The success of the census program in Mukono district has become uncertain after enumerators threatening to put down tools over unstable payments.
Enumerators in various rural sub-counties of the district have opened up to this website that the payment arrangement is complicated and unreliable.
They accuse the Uganda Bureau Of Statistics of failure to stand by their words on the amount paid for work done.
“Before the training commenced, we were promised to get Shillings 30, 000 as transport allowance, however they have lately promised to send on our mobile money accounts 10, 000 for each day.” One of the enumerators told this website.
Nonetheless, enumerators seemed non-compliant with the decision, they have threatened to put down the tools once the promised amount is not rewarded.
They have also promised to discontinue with the exercise once allowances fails to hit their accounts before the fourth day of the exercise.
On Monday, UBOS rolled out the census program to run for ten days across the country.
However, several enumerators declined to sign the appointment letters citing errors in the working terms.
The second working term indicated that each enumerator is entitled to facilitation of Shillings 50, 000 for a period of ten days.
Much as the UBOS Executive Director, Dr. Chris Mukiza came out publicly to rectify on the matter claiming that the Shillings 50, 000 is for each working day, enumerators at Mukono are still uncertain.
